About Units of Measurement
A unit is a measurement of a quantity that is defined or adopted by tradition or law. Other quantities can be expressed as a multiple of the unit.
In human history, various unit systems were developed and used in different regions and cultures. Currently, the global standard of measurement is the International System of Units (SI), which is a modern form of the metric system.
The intent of this site is to provide a convenient means to convert between the various units of measurement within different systems, as well as to provide a basic understanding of the systems currently in use.
How to Use the Unit Converter
Our unit converter makes it easy to convert between different units of measurement. Follow these simple steps:
- Select the measurement type (length, weight, temperature, etc.) using the tabs at the top
- Enter the value you want to convert in the "From" field
- Select the original unit from the dropdown menu
- Select the target unit from the "To" dropdown menu
- The converted value will automatically appear in the result field
Conversion Formulas
Each unit conversion uses a specific formula to calculate the result. For most conversions, we use a simple multiplication factor:

Temperature Conversion Formulas
Temperature conversions use special formulas:
- Celsius to Fahrenheit: °F = (°C × 9/5) + 32
